Silver Lips Musiq Spotlight: The Notorious B.I.G.

On this day thirteen years ago, Christopher Wallace aka Biggie Smalls was murdered in LA by an unknown assailant. And I wanted to honor  him and his brillant body of work. Originally I was going to load up my favorite singles but, then I realized that I you all already have his albums implanted in your Ipods, right?

Mr. Wallace, was widely noted for his autobiographical lyrics and his easy, effortless storylike approach to real life situations. I’ll never forget the first time I heard his low-husky voice. The year was 1992 and I was a sophmore in jr.high school.  The song was Super Cats “DollyMy Baby”. This song debuted Sean “Puffy” Combs and Wallace. It was that song that began my fan fair with Biggie. Now there have been tons of albums and singles that are memerable to me but, “Dolly My Baby” was my introduction to his greatness. He has been quoted as being the savior of east coast hip-hop and I would have to agree.

I wonder what he would be rapping about today if he were still alive. Oh well, guess we’ll never know. But what I do know, is that his classic tunes will be listened to and enjoyed forever more.

Little unknown fact: Christopher “B.I.G” Wallace and I share the same birthday May 21st.
