MAC Year of the Snake: Review, Photos, Swatches
On January 31, MAC released an online only collection inspired by the 2013 Chinese Astrology: Year of the Snake. This small yet bold collection is composed of four eyeshadow, two pigments, three lipsticks, one power point eye pencil, beauty powder and mascara. The snake inspired collection is defined by a palette of vibrant shades and shimmering finishes. MAC’s exclusive packaging slithers with a gorgeous snake design on the beauty powder, lipsticks and eyeshadows.
MAC Plumful Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “blossoming rose-plum” with a lustre finish. This lipstick leans very pink on me though it is reddish pink plum in color. This lipstick is semi-opaque. It applies smoothly on the lips. Normally with most lustre lipsticks I find them to be sheer and not long-lasting but, this shade slightly surprised me. It wore for about 3 hours before needing reapplication, which in my opinion is great wear time for a lustre.
Once Upon a Time… ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “metallic vanilla”. This eyeshadow has a veluxe pearl finish. There is a fair amount of frost in this shadow that makes it great as a lid or highlight color. It has a soft texture that applies smoothly and blends out nicely. The color is nicely pigmented and is true to color in the pan and out. This shadow wore for about 6 hours without primer and about 9 with primer (which I highly recommend) This color is very average in my opinion and not a total must have unless you are in need of a very neutral eyeshadow.
Push the Edge ($21.00 for 0.15 oz.) is described as a “deep bright purple with pearl.” This re-promoted pigment is a violet-purple with fuchsia undertones and a frosted finish. when applying this pigment dry, it goes on very patchy and has a slight chalkiness. The color is also sheerer when applied dry and is hard to blend. The color is vibrant but requires build up. When applying this color wet, that’s when you really see the dazzle. The color is more vibrant and the fuchsia undertones become bolder. It is semi-opaque, smoother in texture and easier to blend when applied wet.
This collection is very nice. It is full of embossed re-promotes that are sure to please because of the rich jeweled tones. To see more of this limited collection, head over to www.maccosmetics.com, your local counter or freestanding store.

That Push the Edge pigment is lovely!!!

The lipstick is pretty. I own push the edge pigment. I bought it when it was released with one of their collections a year or two ago.
