MAC Shop/MAC Cook Collection: Haul, Review, Swatches, Photos
On February 9th, MAC released its Spring collection, MAC Shop/MAC Cook. This hefty sized collection is all about the fun of shopping/cooking and the gorgeous trend setting colors of spring. There are several comeback items launched with this collection such as Tendertones and Kissable Lip Colors, that I know are sure to please most.
Here is what I purchased from this new collection. To see a complete list of available items. Head over to maccosmetics.com
Alright, first up lets talk lipsticks. After kicking myself for not ordering any of the Iris Apfel lipsticks when they were still available. I was sure to order a few stand outs from this collection. Now honestly speaking. A few of the lipsticks offered from this collection were dupable but, the two I ordered were bold, bright, possibly dupable and perfect for spring and summer.
Quick Sizzle is described as a bright matte pink. It is a comfortable matte that applies smoothly and doesn’t dry out the lips like other mattes, such as Ruby Woo. It also has a nice staying staining power. I applied this and went out for drinks and dinner and it was still on my lips. I had to scrub at this lipstick and even doing that it left a nice soft stain that looked pretty good under lipgloss.
Watch Me Simmer is described as a bright pink orange. The formula on this one is amplified but, I really wish it had been matte The color pay-off is great and it applies nice and smooth but this one didn’t last as long on me as I would have liked. Great color for summer and looks even better when paired up with a deep orange or magenta lip liner.
Cream blushes excite me even though I never use them. Its kinda like eyeliner for me. I buy and buy but never use. Well the two I picked from this collection are pretty to look at and even more stunning on the check. Hopefully I will use these more than the others I have.
Optimistic Orange is a bright coral that can be layered for more vibrancy or sheered down for a light coral flush. I even applied this to my lips and loved the results. (note sure if it is lip safe but I’m a risk taker)
Restores Dazzle is described as a rich plum. It’s a very everyday wearable color. I originally didn’t want to like this color but, once getting to the store and seeing it first hand. I had to have it. It looks amazing on deeper skin tones. It has an almost blush from when in look. And layers nicely under “Breath of Plum” blush also by MAC.
Tendertones! I remember when these bad boys first hit the counters years ago. They were cute, fruity smelling and offered a very sheer wash of color. Fast forward to today and though I love tendertones. I can’t take the underlying vanilla taste. Go ahead say it “Why is Nikkia tasting her tendertones?” I don’t, but you know when you apply something to your lips you kinda inhale the smell and taste. You know what I mean right? When you first apply these they smell like a kiwi strawberry but, slowly that nasty vanilla scent creeps right in. :-( I picked up two of these anyway thinking maybe the formula had changed slightly but, it had not. So while I love the colors. I won’t be reacting for these as often as I would like.
Hot n’ Saucy is a sheer cherry red. The juicy pop this gives pink & red lipsticks is super pretty. This one is perfect for date night as it has nice color pay-off without leaving too red on your mans face and collar. lol
Tread Gently is a soft lime green with yellow pearl. I picked this one up because it will make a great neutralizer for reds, pinks and orange lip colors.
Overall this collection did cook up some winners like Quick Sizzle lipstick and Razzle Dazzle creamblend blush. Along with the cute picnic like sleeves that came over each item, when you placed an order online you also got some really cute stickers. See crappy picture below Be sure to check your stash for repromotes like “Brash” eyeshadow which was released in the Cult of Cherry quad from the Cult of Cherry collection, Kissable Lip Colours which were introduced with the Peacocky collection, Florida and Optimistic Orange which launched in the Lillyland collection, and the list could go on and on, just be sure to check your stash before heading to the stores.
