MAC “130″ Short Duo Fiber Brush Review & Photos
MAC 130 Short Duo Fiber Brush, is a short, round, flat-topped brush ideal for the smooth, easy application of foundations, creams, emulsions, and select powder products. Features a blend of natural bristles and synthetic fibers. I currently use this brush to apply cream and liquid foundations. I’ve never tried using this brush for powders but, I will try that soon. The little sister to the 187 & 188 brushes, this brush makes apply foundations a dream. Now I know many people like to use the 187 to apply foundation. But for me the hairs are too long which gives me less control over foundation placement. The 130 on the other hand is dense and because it is so small it glides over and fills in all the nooks and crannies of the face. Retailing at $38.00, this brush like any other MAC brush isn’t cheap, and because it is much smaller than the other duo fiber brushes, some may feel that it is not worth $38.00. I’ll tell you this, if you like the dense feel of the 109 brush (which I lived by) and the blend-abilty of the 187. You are going to love this brush. This brush also works great to apply cream and liquid blushes. It really combines the best of both worlds, leaving you with the airbrushed look without having to use an airbrush.
Have you tried this brush? How do you like it?

Great review. I’ve not tried it yet, but it’s on my list. I’m really diggin’ cream blushes at the moment and want this for those.

Hey Sunshine,
Thanks! It is such a great brush for cream blushes because it is so small you can build the color without fear of looking like a clown. Let me know how you like it once you get it

I use the 187 to apply highlighting powders (usually with shimmer) to my face, and on occasion blush. I’ve honestly been a bit afraid to use it for foundation, thinking I’d ruin my favorite highlighting brush!
When you use it for foundation do you apply it to your face and then blend with the 130, or are you picking up the foundation with the brush for application? Cause, if that is how you do it, I think I need to buy a second brush. When we were in NYC for the fall TB stuff, your makeup was flawless!

Hey Christine, How are you? Yup I pick you the foundation with the brush and apply. I felt the same way about not wanting to ruin the brush but, I’ve found that if I wash right after using the brush that helps to keep the brush from messing up. I would suggest buying an additional brush, one for wet products and the other for dry products. My back up one is from Sigma Makeup and I love it. But sadly I did buy two of the 130 brushes
And thanks so much for the compliment. I also use the 182 brush to buff everything out and apply my powder if that helps.
Are you going to the makeup show?

i’ve learned to appreciate the 130″s small size and it has earned a place in my brush bag.

I’m not going, I’ll be on vacation in Hawaii then (oh, so hard, I know! LOL) Though I do wish I could be in NYC for the Makeup Show too, there are a lot of great girls going (Is Kia going too?), and I am getting some great event invites now!
Thanks for the tips about application, I think I will pick up a second brush and try it out.
